St. Louis: My mom did not cook but she fed me the Sunday NY Times. My weekly glimpse into the real estate section of homes that had names!
I devoured every detail while imagining how each room would look. What it would feel like inside. One of the prominent NJ listings that I clipped was cherished in a little green plaid frame for years. Now I collect favorites in my over flowing Zillow likes!
Back then, while coveting beautiful homes I was simultaneously being trained in construction management. My dad’s commercial construction company was anchored in our home. When phone lines were shared it meant that me, my mom and brother were on call too!
Fast food chains, day care centers, dental offices, and Walgreens. I learned how construction is managed. How budgets and buildings are built. How to collaborate with subcontractors and vendors. This foundation – pun intended – is a key component in the know-how I bring to my projects.

Bloomington, IN:
Graduated Indiana University – Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. Classes in Fine Art, Textiles and Drafting gave me insightful perspectives when experiencing design.
Let’s Go Hoosiers!!!
1987, Chicago, IL:
My design career began with The Childs Dreyfus Group a leading Interior Merchandising firm in Chicago. Earning my shin splints running through The Merchandise Mart, the view from the top floor lake shore locale of the then Playboy building was worthwhile compensation. 1989: Hired as a Construction Project Manager with a high-end residential development firm, with an in-house stone fabrication and cabinet shop. This role was critical in my understanding of construction practices while working alongside much admired Chicago architects. Ask me to name drop, please!
1993, Boulder, CO:
Fulfilled a dream to live in Colorado and began a sales career with a building specialty company in Boulder. This experience offered insight into the builder/supplier relationship, as well as supplier/vendor relationships. With a focus on woodwork, cabinetry, hardware and other finish materials, I was inspired daily. And, then the internet happened.
1999: Accepted an inside sales position at a 20,0000 square foot decorative plumbing and tile showroom in Denver. Yes, twenty thousand whole square feet. More than 500 faucets. 100’s of tile displays. I felt like I was attending the University of Plumbing and Tile.

2005, Steamboat Springs:
Moved to the Boat to joined the team at Habitat Construction. Working with and for speculative and custom clients provided great experience in the process of creating warm and easy vacation homes.
2010: Joined the Gerber Berend Design Build team – in the early years. Easily the best experience as an employee.
2015: Established my interior design business Designed Interiors LLC. 2016 & 2020: Awarded Best of Houzz Service based upon client satisfaction. 2023: Earned two NKBA Specialty Badges for Remodeling, and Floor Plans & Specifications. 2024: Earned NKBA Color Specialty Badge
2025: Interiors by Kande
Re-branded as Interiors by Kande. After years of repeat clients wondering what my company is called, it was time for a more personal vibe with my name.
2026: Working on my Lighting Design Badge from the NKBA while always doing my best to service the socks off my clients.
