STEAMBOAT, CO: My favorite local artists

Our exceptional place in northern Colorado shines through the gifted artists who create here.

In a Colorado ski town that reveres Olympians, I believe our art scene is worthy of the same reverence. We have so much creative talent in our town. Here are 5 favorite local Steamboat artists – with images I’ve borrowed from the world wide web.

Seek them out when you are here in The Boat!

Ceramics | Julie K Anderson

I love the science behind Julie’s precise vessels and measured glazes. Her inspired works are awesome to witness. I’ve done my best to have a front row seat since I arrived in town in 2005. Screens do not serve the details of the art.

Paint | Lance Whitner

Above is screenshot from Lance’s website. Her colors and compositions speak to my heart. I find her work is a portal to joy. She knows that I’m a fan girl! She is a rock star. For real.

Paper | Paulina M Johnson

The depth and interest in her paper works is endlessly intriguing.

Here is one of Paulina’s creations purchased by a dear and savvy client. Instant inspiration for the new bench design!

Bronze | Sandy Graves

Sandy makes metal move. She magically breathes life into bronze. Her work is universal and grounded. The top image is a screenshot from her website. The “She Walks On Water” image is borrowed from Sandy’s site via Steamboat Radio.

Artist | Susan Schiesser

Deeply hopeful is how I see Susan’s work. Quietly pulling me in every time I view it. To me she defined artist.

Be on the lookout for all the vibrant murals around town!

Design without function is just art.”

A bumper sticker moment during a recent continuing education class.

I love design. I love art! What is one without the other?” ~ Kande.
